Importing Chat History From Other Messengers
Loading Chats History
How Is History Loaded in Client Apps?
After logging into the app again, upon opening any chat or channel, the last 50 (web/desktop) or 100 (mobile app) messages are loaded in total, including system messages. To load older history, scroll up in the chat.
Can I Export Message History From My Chats?
This feature isn't available in the app.
Access to Correspondence History
How to Open History for Future New Participants in a Group Chat or Channel?
To remove the participant limit, and to allow new future participants to see the history, disable end-to-end encryption in the chat: in the app, open the chat or channel properties and turn off the End-to-End Encryption toggle. This can also be done when adding a new participant. The corporate server administrator can convert the chat or channel to open or disable end-to-end encryption (chats only). Is it Possible to Open the History in Advance?
Yes. For new participants to see the entire history, the chat, or channel administrator must fulfil the following prerequesites together:- Disable end-to-end encryption beforehand (when creating the chat or channel).
- Add at least one user from all necessary servers.
The first user from a server can even be a bot. For example, if an organization has two servers, and there is already a group chat or channel on the first server, adding a bot from the second server will ensure the history is loaded onto the second server for future users.CTSeCTS
Is It Possible to Share Only the Last 100 Messages from History With a New Participant?
No, this is not possible. This limitation stems from a fundamental difference in the eXpress architecture compared to messengers with a centralized storage model (e.g., Telegram).
In Telegram, all messages are stored on a single server, so the service can “provide” a new participant with exactly as much history as the administrator allows (subject to the platform’s own limitations).
In eXpress, chat history is stored in a distributed manner on the servers of each participant in the conversation. When a new participant is added to a chat, their server provides them with the entire history from the moment when at least one user from that server first appeared in the chat. If the new chat participant is the first from their server, the chat will appear empty to them because the server has only just created a local copy of the chat and begun synchronizing the encrypted history. Partial history transfer (“only the last N messages”) is not supported by the architecture.
Thus, a new participant will see either all available chat history from their server (if end-to-end encryption is disabled) or none of the communication prior to their addition (if end-to-end encryption is enabled).
I Was Added to a Chat of Another Company. E2E Encryption Is Disabled, but I Can't See the History. Why?
Chats are loaded onto the servers of each participant. If there were no participants from a specific server at the time of sending messages, those messages will not be available to the first participant from that server. Subsequent users will see the history from the moment the first participant is added.I've Been Added to E2E Encrypted Chat, but I Can't Access the Pinned Message. Why?
A user will not be able to open a pinned message if they were added to the chat with encryption enabled after the message was sent.Deleting Correspondence History
How to Clear Chat History?
The Clear Chat/Channel/Thread History command in the properties (card) of a chat, channel, or thread deletes all messages on all your devices, but not on the server — they remain there in encrypted form. The chat, channel, or thread will not disappear from the list but will move in time to the moment of creation. This may not happen immediately, as updating the local cache takes time.Is It Possible to Restore Cleared Chat History on Devices?
Yes, because chats are stored on the server. To restore deleted history:- Leave the chat or channel: delete it from the list or exit via the context menu.
- Return to the chat or channel via an invitation link, or ask the administrator to add you back.
- The history will load from the server onto all your devices.
When Can Chat History Be Lost?
Access to chat history may be lost:
- Permanently, if you reset your personal password on the application login screen (the history in all chats will be lost, but the chats themselves will remain) — more details.
- Permanently, if you linked a phone number to one account but logged into the corporate server with another account without a phone number — more details.
- Permanently, if you deleted the account, as the HUID will change — more details.
- Permanently, if you changed your login on a legacy corporate server or created a new account in the corporate directory without linking a phone number — more details.
- If the account was logged out, for example, when leaving the organization (access to corporate chat history is lost), but the history can be restored by logging back into the same server with the phone number — more details. If the phone number was not linked, corporate chat history is lost permanently — more details
- When migrating from one corporate server to another, the corporate correspondence is lost.
