Tags & Tabs

Tags Purpose

Tags are special text labels that can be assigned to chats, contacts, and individual messages. Tags allow you to:
  • find and group chats by tabs if they are marked with a common tag
  • find contacts with a common tag not only through chat and contact search but also mention all participants with this tag in a chat en masse
  • find specific messages in chats if they are marked with a common tag

The number of tags is unlimited. Tags are synchronized between sessions.

Using Tags and Tabs

Searching for chats, contacts, and messages by tags

Press the # button next to any search field in the app to open the list of tags. Select the desired tag to display chats, contacts, or messages marked with this tag in the search results. To remove a tag from the search, click the cross on it.

Combining multiple tags

You can combine multiple tags in the search field:
  • Mobile app. Add the first tag, press the tag button again, select the condition for combining tags (strict selection, logical “AND” or non-strict selection, logical “OR”) and choose another tag.
  • Web/desktop app. Hold down the Ctrl key and select the desired tags — the search results will display elements matching all selected tags (strict selection, logical “AND”). Hold down the Shift key and select the desired tags — the search results will display elements matching at least one of the selected tags (non-strict selection, logical “OR”).

Mentioning all users marked with a tag in a chat

To mention multiple contacts marked with a specific tag in a chat, type the @ in the message input field and start typing the tag name. Tags that are assigned to more than one contact will appear.

Filter tabs above the chat list

Use tabs with pre-selected tags above the chat list to display only relevant chats. You can manage any tab using its context menu.

Managing Tags

Creating your own tags and managing chat tabs

Open the tag settings by selecting Settings (avatar above the chat list) > Tags or click the gear icon in the tag list below the search field. To create a new tag, tap the Create button. You can also create new tags directly when assigning them — enter the name of a non-existent tag in the context menu of a chat, contact, or message (and press the Enter key in the web/desktop app).

The tag name cannot contain spaces.

To turn a chat tag into a separate tab above the chat list, in the tag settings, drag the tag above the horizontal divider line in the web/desktop app or pin the tag in the mobile app.

Assigning tags

To add a tag to a chat, contact, or message, select Add tag in its context menu and start typing the name of a new (it will be created automatically) or existing tag. In the web/desktop app, press the Enter key, and in the mobile app, click the plus button on the tag creation screen to assign the selected tag.

To add a tag to a chat or contact, open the chat or contact card and select Add tag.

If a chat, contact, or message already has a tag, you can add another one — click inside the field next to the current tag and enter the name of an additional tag.

Removing tags

To remove a tag from a chat, contact, or message, open the context menu (of the chat, contact, or message) or the card (of the chat or contact) and click the cross next to the tag you want to remove.

Tag settings

To open the tag settings, select Settings (avatar above the chat list) > Tags (Tag Settings) or click the gear icon in the tag list below the search field in the web/desktop app.

In the settings, you can change the display order of tags, configure chat list tabs corresponding to tags, disable unnecessary tags, manage notifications for tags (relevant for chats and contacts), and add or delete your tags.
