The first Russian corporate super app “Supernika” for Norilsk Nickel employees

In April 2023, the first corporate superapp among companies in the real sector of Russia, Supernika, was launched into pilot operation at Norilsk Nickel. Thanks to eXpress, more than 40 digital corporate services, new opportunities for communication and prompt feedback became available to company employees from more than 25 Russian cities in a “single window” format.

What was the task

Norilsk Nickel employs more than 81,000 people. The majority of the company's employees - enterprise employees - have limited access to the company's digital services and use them through a chatbot in public messengers or through information kiosks. The developers had a goal - to create a unified information and communication environment for all employees of the company without exception, while complying with enterprise-level information security requirements. An innovative approach was required.

To create such a digital environment, it was decided to integrate several business systems based on the eXpress platform into one mobile service, the largest of which are:

  • corporate information portal.

Features of implementation

The Superniki developers needed to integrate and adapt services already running in the company, which were independent products, for launch on the eXpress platform. For example, an employee’s personal account was created on the basis of a heavy SAP ERP system, with minimal modifications to the source code.

The information security service of Norilsk Nickel set strict requirements for the superapp vendor - they totaled 198 points. One of the advantages when choosing a vendor was that eXpress is currently the only product of the “online communications” class that has a certificate from FSTEC of Russia for level 4 of trust. As a result, all communication channels inside the secure superapp were successfully tested.

The developers took into account the distribution of the customer company's divisions throughout Russia. They set up internetworking for 120 company servers located in Chita, Norilsk, Monchegorsk and Moscow. eXpress specialists have also optimized the protocol for use in low-bandwidth networks.

The Supernika system is based on a microservice architecture: all services within it operate independently of each other and are simultaneously connected through 3,500 rules. The superapp's communication channels, including chats, are reliably protected in accordance with the highest information security standards, as confirmed by independent pentests.

Project implementation results

“Supernika” is a corporate super app, where in one application, even without access to a work PC, company employees and management receive secure and seamless online access to corporate systems and services. In his personal account, the employee sees his job descriptions, pay slips, vacation balance, can order the necessary certificates, and learn about internal programs for adaptation, training and advanced training. In a 24/7 format, they participate in the company’s socially significant programs: health care, corporate sports and recreation projects, voluntary health insurance.

Manage your team’s talent development cycle, get quick access to employee data, set KPIs, evaluate performance - all this is available in a convenient format on the managers’ mobile phone. At the same time, by logging into the application once, the user gains access to corporate services without having to enter a login and password each time (Single Sign-On technology).

The key criterion for the success of the case was the results that were significant for the business, expressed in specific numbers. In particular, as of February 2024, the corporate super app is used by more than 47 thousand Norilsk Nickel employees, which is 57% of the company’s workforce. This share is planned to increase to 95% within a year. More than 40 digital services of the company, from onboarding to vacation registration, are already available to employees in the application, and several dozen more corporate systems are in line for integration.

Recognition of “Superniki” by the professional community

The release of the “Supernika” application based on eXpress took place in April 2023. In less than a year, the superapp was awarded the most prestigious awards:

  • TAdviser IT Prize 2023 in the category “Corporate mobile application “Project of the Year”.
  • The best corporate superapp project of 2023 in the “Project of the Year” competition Global CIO IT HR AWARDS in the “Internal Communications” category.
  • Victory in the HR project competition HR IMPACT 2024 in the DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION category.
